As protests in recent months, culminating in violent demonstrations in October, have consumed much of the governing majority’s energy, Socialist Party leader Edi Rama is discussing a meeting of the party’s General Assembly with his associates.
Socialist Party sources told Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu that a meeting of the assembly on November 14 is under discussion. The date is expected to be confirmed in the coming days, when all members of the Socialist Party’s General Assembly will be notified.

But what might this possible November 14 assembly meeting bring?
Journalist Muhamed Veliu outlines the main issues Edi Rama is expected to discuss.
The assembly will focus on preparations for the May 9 local elections, including the continuing protests, despite a decline in turnout.
Alongside efforts to mobilize the party to win the elections, Rama is expected to set out how Socialist candidates for mayor will be chosen.
It remains to be seen whether Rama will use the assembly to share his thoughts on the ideal candidate to win Tirana, the country’s largest municipality.
Socialists expect to hear their party leader’s public position on Erion Veliaj, who has openly taken a strongly confrontational stance toward Rama since his transfer to Fier prison.
It also remains to be seen whether the agenda will include Elisa Spiropali’s motion, which calls on Rama to open up the Socialist Party and addresses the need for a “New Agreement for Albania.”
Rama used the September 2023 assembly to announce changes to half of his cabinet.
Whether he uses the November 14 assembly to make substantial changes to his fourth cabinet remains entirely up to Rama. The government is facing a host of concerns arising from the protests, which the prime minister says he has taken note of and is addressing.
