The incident became public following the clash between journalist Lirim Mehmetaj and former MP Gani Geci, which was linked to allegations of threats triggered by a social media publication.

According to media reports, Gani Geci had been arrested on suspicion of the criminal offense of intimidation. His family members gave a different account, saying he had presented himself to the police voluntarily to give a statement.

The situation was triggered by a Facebook post by Lirim Mehmetaj concerning Vetëvendosje Movement MP Fatos Geci.

During the show “Debat Plus,” the journalist said Gani Geci had called him to demand the deletion or modification of the post. Mehmetaj stated that, after he refused, several representatives of the Geci family went to his office and threatened him.

Mehmetaj also said he had notified the Kosovo Police about the incident.

During the broadcast, host Ermal Panduri announced that Gani Geci was in the parking lot of the television station where the debate was being aired.

After that, media reported that the former MP had been taken to the police.

The Geci family reacted after these reports were published, denying that Gani Geci had been arrested. According to them, he went to the police voluntarily after being contacted by phone by police officers.

In the statement made on behalf of the family, it was said that Gani Geci was at a bar with family members and friends at the moment he received the call from the police.

Family members announced that he would respond to the media after the interview was completed, while describing reports of his arrest as inaccurate.

Journalist Lirim Mehmetaj also reacted to the developments, publishing a short message on Facebook.

“The truth always,” Mehmetaj wrote, without providing further details about Geci’s appearance at the police.

This reaction was posted after his statements about the alleged threats and the news about the former MP’s detention.

As of the latest reviewed reports, the Kosovo Police had not officially confirmed whether Gani Geci had been arrested, detained, or merely interviewed.

Consequently, his procedural status remains unclear, while the allegations of intimidation are expected to be clarified by the competent authorities.

The case is linked to a conflict that arose after a public post, which was subsequently referred to law enforcement.
