A physical altercation at a nightclub in the British capital has ended with a guilty plea from American R&B artist Chris Brown. The music star appeared in court regarding an incident that occurred in the early hours of February 19, 2023, at the private members’ club Tape in London’s prestigious Mayfair district.

Prosecutors described how the brawl began when Brown suddenly approached the victim from the dance floor and struck him with a glass bottle. Omololu Akinlolu, known as Hoody Baby, immediately joined the assault, and both continued to hit music producer Abe Diaw even as he tried to avoid the conflict. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, the victim was chased, knocked down, and kicked while lying on the floor, unable to defend himself.
Security camera footage analyzed by the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the singer struck Diaw several times in the head with the glass object. The victim subsequently suffered head and knee injuries that required immediate hospital treatment.

During the hearing at Southwark Crown Court, Brown formally admitted to the charge of affray. Meanwhile, the more serious charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon were dropped by authorities. The same procedure was followed for his associate Akinlolu, who also pleaded guilty to affray and was cleared of the main charges.
Commenting on the case, Metropolitan Police detective Zara Ripamonti called it “a shameful and unjustified act of violence,” adding that such behavior is not tolerated in the city. Prosecutor Claire Campbell reiterated that striking someone with a glass bottle in a crowded space constitutes a dangerous display of violence, and that no one is above the law.
The hearing lasted less than five minutes, and Judge Tony Baumgartner set October 26 for the final sentencing. Brown was allowed to leave the United Kingdom on the condition that he returns one day before that date to await the penalty.
