According to information released during the court hearing, O’Brien was stabbed more than 60 times, mainly in the face and neck area. The incident is suspected to have occurred after a conflict between the couple in April of last year.
The victim was found dead on the bathroom floor of the apartment where she lived with Garner. The prosecution said she was undressed and covered with a blue raincoat.
The forensic pathologist, according to testimony presented in court, had documented more than 60 knife wounds, including 32 to the face and neck.
After the incident, Garner allegedly spent about a day and a half trying to eliminate evidence. The prosecution claims he washed the body, cleaned the apartment with bleach, removed blood-stained clothes, destroyed his partner’s phone, and also discarded his own device.
Police officers went to the 31-year-old’s apartment on the afternoon of April 19. According to the prosecution, he had earlier told a relative that he had struck his partner twice in the neck.
During the proceedings, testimony was also mentioned that Amber O’Brien had confided in her brother about frequent arguments with Garner and her concern over his mood swings.
About two weeks before the murder, she had told her brother that something was not right with her partner, expressing concern about the situation she was in.
Garner is expected to defend the position that he did not intend to cause serious physical harm to his partner and that, at the moment of the confrontation, he had lost control of himself.
He is also expected to state that he had tried to leave the apartment in the early hours of April 18, but that O’Brien had punched him and had picked up a knife.
The trial continues in Britain, where the claims of the parties and all the circumstances of the incident will be examined.
