Ballistic missile strikes a ship near the Strait of Hormuz; no injuries reported as investigation begins

A ship caught fire after being struck by a missile of unclear origin in the Persian Gulf, near the Iranian coast, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

The attack took place yesterday evening, about 40 nautical miles south of the Iranian island of Lavan, in an area where maritime tensions have risen and several attacks on commercial vessels have been reported.

UKMTO, an agency operating under the UK Ministry of Defence, confirmed that all crew members are safe. So far, no pollution or environmental damage has been reported, and authorities have disclosed neither the ship’s name nor the missile’s origin.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Oman said it had rescued 25 crew members from another commercial vessel that had been attacked off its coast.

The situation continues to be monitored. Vessels in the area have been urged to exercise extra caution and promptly report any suspicious activity.
