U.S. Ambassador to Tirana Eric Wendt met with Marjana Koçeku, an independent MP from Shkodër, during a visit to Albania by a delegation from the U.S. Congress.

The meeting took place in the presence of U.S. senators Jeanne Shaheen and Dick Durbin, as part of the ambassador’s meetings with representatives of Albanian political parties. The discussion focused on political and institutional developments in the country.
Koçeku, who left the Socialist Party and continues to serve as an independent MP, was among the opposition representatives invited by the U.S. Embassy to the discussion.
The U.S. delegation’s visit to the Western Balkans is focused on regional security, Euro-Atlantic integration, cooperation with NATO and strengthening the rule of law.
During the senators’ stay in Albania, Ambassador Eric Wendt accompanied them to meetings with President Bajram Begaj and the heads of SPAK and the National Bureau of Investigation. MPs Jorida Tabaku, Oerd Bylykbashi and Ivi Kaso, as well as Agron Shehaj, leader of the “Mundësia” party, also attended the meetings with opposition representatives.
After their visit to Tirana, Jeanne Shaheen and Dick Durbin will travel to Kosovo, where they are expected to meet with representatives of local institutions and political parties.
