The European lawmaker from Greece, Emmanouil Fragkos (Fragkulis), has launched strong criticism against the European integration process of North Macedonia, calling Skopje’s aspiration to join the European Union “laughable”, reports “vestimak.mk”, as relayed by the newspaper “Lajm” and “Lajm tv”. In his latest appearance, he accused the neighboring country of “distorting history” and at the same time issued harsh criticism at the Greek government, which he called “passive”.

Fragkos directly questioned the historical foundation of North Macedonia during his speech, calling on the European Union not to turn a blind eye to such behavior, if it truly strives for the rule of law. “Skopje is seeking EU integration. This is laughable. Meanwhile, they continue to build false histories on the theft of heritage, while the Greek government is busy with other matters. For decades, Skopje has usurped the Macedonian name, symbols, and heritage. The EU cannot turn a blind eye. You cannot demand respect for the rule of law and at the same time tolerate the falsification of history,” the Greek MEP emphasized before his colleagues.
In the continuation of his statement, his rhetoric hardened even further, warning of a total blockade of North Macedonia’s path to the European bloc. He used a metaphor to completely contest the state’s foundation. “Skopje must understand something very simple: You cannot build a state without a historical foundation, with foreign material and usurped land. We will insist that Skopje does not enter the EU. End of story, no more tolerance. End of illusions,” the MEP Emmanouil Fragkos was categorical.
