The latest official figures confirm that there are now 5,278 victims, as thousands of citizens continue to remain without a roof over their heads.

Government sources stressed that the data is still provisional. In just one day, another 70 deaths were added. Previously, the toll was 5,208 dead, while the number of injured has not changed, remaining at 16,740.

The two seismic shocks with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale shook the country on June 24, causing massive destruction, especially in the northern region, most notably in the coastal state of La Guaira, near the capital Caracas.

Rescue missions are still underway in the hardest-hit areas, where teams are working to pull survivors or bodies from the ruins of collapsed buildings. Meanwhile, more than 23,000 individuals are finding shelter in over 100 makeshift camps.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced that within the month of December, 4,000 families affected by this tragedy will be provided with new homes.

During a ceremony broadcast by public television, she emphasized that “distributions will be carried out on a monthly basis.”

Rodríguez also informed that approximately 200 families have already received apartments in a social housing complex, calling it a “moment of happiness through the pain of those affected by the earthquake.” She guaranteed that by the year 2027, more than 10,000 housing units will be built and distributed.

Authorities estimate that the country will need about 25,000 homes to accommodate all the families left homeless due to the disaster.

Official statistics show that 856 buildings have sustained damage, while 190 have completely collapsed.

Meanwhile, an official number of people reported as missing has not yet been made public. In the days following the earthquakes, the United Nations estimated that the figure could reach up to 50,000, while other estimates suggest around 10,000 missing.
