A hearing to determine security measures for the former director, the head of finance and the cashier of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës has begun at the Durrës Court. The three officials were arrested three days ago, after they were suspected of failing to deposit 69 million new lekë into the accounts of the Shijak and Krujë branches—funds intended for pensions and social assistance.
Under investigation are Elisabeta Mataj, who was dismissed a few days ago from her position as director of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, finance chief Valbona Doni and cashier Paola Dana. Their arrest was carried out by police following a complaint and an investigation launched into the suspected misuse of millions of lekë from the institution’s funds.

The detention was carried out as part of criminal proceedings registered by the Prosecutor’s Office for the criminal offences of “Abuse of Office” and “Theft through Abuse of Office,” committed in collaboration.
According to suspicions raised by the investigation, during April and May 2026, the three women embezzled 69 million new lekë. The money was supposed to be collected by the Albanian Post branch in Durrës for the Shijak and Krujë branches, in order to distribute pensions and social assistance to residents of these areas.
The case is being handled by prosecutor Gazmend Frëngu, while the judge is Xhevdet Lika.
