At least two people were killed and five others injured after a Russian ballistic missile attack struck Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight. The toll was confirmed by Ukraine’s emergency services.
Before the explosions were heard, Ukraine’s Air Force warned of several ballistic missiles moving toward the capital. Powerful explosions were then reported in several parts of Kyiv.

The strike hit the Darnytskyi district in the east of the city, where missile debris fell on non-residential buildings and killed two people. A warehouse in the Sviatoshynskyi district, in western Kyiv, was also hit during the bombardment.
The attack came just hours after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had visited Kyiv. She was in Ukraine to strengthen defence cooperation between the European Union and Kyiv.
Ukrainian authorities are continuing search-and-rescue operations while also assessing the damage caused by the latest Russian attack.
