Britain imposes new sanctions on Russia: Use of chemical weapons described as a grave violation

Britain has approved sanctions against seven Russian nationals linked to the development and production of chemical weapons used in the Salisbury poisonings, as well as in other cases reported over the years.

British authorities said the measures target individuals involved in the research and synthesis of nerve agents such as Novichok, used in attacks that caused civilian casualties, including Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny and British citizen Dawn Sturgess.

As part of this decision, sanctions have also been imposed on two Russian research centers identified as SC Signal and GNIII VM, as well as on their directors and leading specialists.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, said Russia’s use of chemical weapons constitutes a grave violation of international law and a threat to global security, stressing that London will continue to take action in coordination with allies to deter their use.
