Vučić no longer controls the course of events” – Pandeli Majko: History will remember him for his failures

Former Socialist MP Pandeli Majko has commented on the latest political developments in Serbia and Aleksandar Vučić’s departure from power.

In his article, Majko portrays Vučić as a politician who had outlived his time, while criticizing the way he governed and the influence he exerted over state institutions.

According to him, during Vučić’s time in power, political authority became closely linked to economic interests. The institutions, Majko continues, were placed at the service of protecting a political, economic and criminal group.

Majko concludes that history will remember Aleksandar Vučić for his failures rather than his successes, while after losing the election he no longer has control over political developments.

VUČIĆ’S DEPARTURE…

Aleksandar Vučić has left power. He was not brought down in the manner of a tyrant, but withdrew as an old political figure who had continued to remain beyond his time.

He was unable to withstand the new media power of social networks, a fast-moving and noisy space.

History will remember Aleksandar Vučić not for his achievements, but for his failures; not for what he built, but for what he destroyed.

Vučić had charm, was an unconventional politician and was not afraid of experimentation. Nevertheless, carelessness and a self-destructive tendency were part of his profile.

Ironically, the same qualities that helped him become successful, together with his effort to make himself acceptable, led him toward crisis.

Aleksandar Vučić was unable to resist the allure of power.

For him, morality was a luxury that the Serbian political system could not afford.

Vučić became a symbol of a system in which political power and economic interests fed each other. The consequence was the dismantling of the administrative state.

He transformed Serbia into a state where the laws, administration and security structures were used to strengthen the interests of a ruling group made up of politics, business and organized crime.

During Aleksandar Vučić’s rule, control over Serbian institutions was not an end in itself.

This control was used to secure wealth, protect allies and weaken any mechanism that could obstruct the continuation of his rule.

The Vučić “doctrine” marked a revolutionary change compared with the traditional mafia in the way control was exercised. He shifted corruption from an isolated violation of the law into an organized system in which the state was transformed into an “assistant.”

Within this logic, coexistence with violations of the law was not considered betrayal, but necessity.

Aleksandar Vučić will be remembered not for any moral greatness, but for his untouchability.

Aleksandar Vučić lost the election yesterday. Since yesterday, he no longer controls events. Now events are the ones that will control him.
