A powerful explosion was reported at around 11:00 a.m. at the “Motor Oil” refinery in Agioi Theodoroi, Greece. The incident killed one person, seriously injured another and left several others with minor injuries.

“Motor Oil” said the incident occurred during extensive preventive maintenance work. According to the company, two workers suffered serious injuries, received first aid at the scene and were then transported to hospital. The company also stated that all safety and emergency response protocols were immediately put into effect.
Several hours later, it was confirmed that 43-year-old Robert Cakaj had died. Meanwhile, 50-year-old Dorian Hysa remains intubated and is receiving medical treatment.
The two more seriously injured workers were initially taken to Corinth Hospital. A third person, who was experiencing very mild breathing difficulties, was also taken to the same hospital. The two patients with more serious injuries were later transferred to Thriasio, where one of them died, while the other remains in critical condition due to severe head injuries.
Meanwhile, according to information made public, the prosecutor has requested the contractor’s arrest.
