Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla reacted after the remains of Adem Beqiri, Idriz Rrecaj and Salih Mëziu, who were abducted and disappeared during the war in Kosovo, were returned to their families.

In her statement, Gërvalla described them as activists, intellectuals and patriots who devoted their lives and work to the nation and the freedom of Kosovo. She said that, after more than two decades, Adem, Idriz and Salih were returning to their families and loved ones. According to her, they are not merely names in the history of the Republic, but belonged to a generation that gave everything for the freedom of the country.
Gërvalla recalled that all three were members of Mitrovica’s “Group of Intellectuals” and among the 23 men who were abducted and disappeared during the war. She linked their abduction, killing and disappearance to the violence carried out as part of Milošević’s genocidal regime’s campaign against Albanian civilians in Kosovo.
According to the minister, the targets were not only their lives, but also a generation of intellectuals, activists and patriots who represented Albanian thought, knowledge, organization and resistance. She described this as a blow to the heart of society and resistance in Kosovo.
Honoring their lives, work and sacrifice, Gërvalla said that responsibility does not end with the eternal remembrance of all those who gave their lives for Kosovo’s freedom. It also includes building the Kosovo they dreamed of and bringing to justice all the criminals who committed crimes in the country.
The minister stressed that the search for the truth about every missing person and accountability for every crime committed against the victims of the war would continue every day. She called this a state and national duty and obligation that the Republic would see through to the end, because only in this way can justice take on its full meaning.
In conclusion, Gërvalla expressed eternal respect for the lives and work of Adem Beqiri, Idriz Rrecaj and Salih Mëziu.
