Searches of Ron Yeffet, Jorida Tabaku: Anyone involved in the weapons industry without competition or transparency must be investigated fully!

In a social media post, Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku commented on the searches being carried out by SPAK, by order of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, at the home and offices of Ron Yeffet and other people linked to the company KAYO, following the publication of audio recordings concerning arms trafficking.

Tabaku stressed that anyone involved in the weapons industry using public funds, without competition or transparency, must be investigated fully. She added that this is not only about the theft of public funds, but also about undermining national security.

“Anyone involved in the weapons industry using public funds, without competition and without transparency, must be investigated fully. When it comes to defense, it is not only Albanians’ money that is at risk, but also the national security of a NATO member state,” she said.

She also expressed concern about the proposed amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure, saying that they could limit SPAK’s ability to search, investigate and bring such cases to justice.

FULL STATEMENT:

There is good news today: SPAK has begun searches at the homes and businesses of people linked to KAYO and Ron Yeffet.

Anyone involved in the weapons industry using public funds, without competition and without transparency, must be investigated fully. When it comes to defense, it is not only Albanians’ money that is at risk, but also the national security of a NATO member state.

A few days ago, I received a letter from KAYO, which did not answer any of the questions raised. I have now submitted another official request: what security checks did the state-owned company carry out before accepting an unsolicited offer from Ron Yeffet?

A person linked to the government cannot take control of the weapons industry and receive 34 million euros from the state budget, without competition, without transparency and without producing anything, and then remain beyond any scrutiny.

That is why the proposed amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure are deeply concerning. If SPAK’s ability to search, investigate and bring such cases to justice is restricted, then we do not have reform, but political protection for corruption.

This system has eroded Albania. It has built an unjust state for the majority and a state of privilege for the prime minister’s inner circle.

This is the government of the minority, where not everyone is equal before the law. We demand transparency, accountability and justice to the very end.
