“Special envoy positions last one year. Trump extended mine by more than six months,” he wrote.

Zampolli also spoke about his longstanding relationship with the U.S. president, recalling that Trump had steered him toward real estate years earlier.

“Years ago, he got me into real estate. Now he asks me, ‘Why do you want to work for the government when you could be doing all these deals?’” Zampolli said.

In his message, he stressed that serving the United States had been the greatest privilege of his life and said he was now beginning a new chapter.

“Serving the United States has been the greatest honor of my life. Now it’s time for a new chapter,” he concluded.
