Heavy rains, floods and landslides have claimed the lives of at least 68 people in India and Nepal over the past three days.

The death toll in India has reached 56, most of them in Uttar Pradesh. The rainfall has severely damaged homes, infrastructure and agricultural crops. In Odisha, overflowing rivers have forced more than 70,000 residents to evacuate low-lying areas.
In Nepal, rain-related disasters have left 12 people dead and seven missing. In addition, an avalanche in the Himalayas has cut off contact with 10 mountaineers and Nepalese guides, who are reported missing.
Authorities’ teams are continuing search and rescue efforts. The heavy rainfall has caused extensive damage, while thousands of residents have fled their homes.
