Himara Mayor Vangjel Tavo has issued a statement following the decision to dissolve the local Territorial Protection Inspectorate (IMT). He described the move as unavoidable and announced that he would propose that the National Territorial Protection Inspectorate (IKMT) also bring the Himara unit under its authority.

According to Tavo, one of the main reasons for the move is a staff shortage, as the local IMT also employed individuals who were not residents of the area.
The mayor stressed that officials at the institution have no right to abuse their positions, either by penalizing citizens who follow the rules or by turning a blind eye to illegal construction.
Tavo said that all staff members had been dismissed and that he had asked the Prosecutor’s Office to launch an investigation into anyone found responsible.
This marks the second time Himara’s IMT has been dissolved as a result of previously encountered problems. The Municipality of Himara will now submit an official request to the IKMT to place the body under its jurisdiction.
