Both had been trapped in a five-story building that collapsed in the Ciudad Capri neighborhood after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake, which has so far caused over 130 victims.
The mother and baby were transported to nearby assistance centers, where they were declared out of danger.
Search and rescue operations continue non-stop amid the rubble. Rescuer Carlos Ortiz told the media that finding the baby together with the mother has given the team hope to continue their work.
“Fortunately, we found the baby with her mother, which gave us great hope to continue the work. We have already rescued seven people and are currently searching, as we are receiving life signals, for an elderly couple and their seven-year-old grandson,” said Ortiz.
Referring to the baby, he assured that her condition is stable.
“Fortunately, she is stable. She suffered some minor scratches during the extraction, but she is in a stable condition and has been taken into the care of local paramedics,” the rescuer stated.
