Strategy for former KLA leaders: Konjufca announces Saturday meeting to compile documents

The next meeting of the group preparing a comprehensive strategy for former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) will be held on Saturday. The news was announced by the group’s head, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Glauk Konjufca.

At a press conference following his meeting with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, Konjufca explained that the strategy aims to help former KLA leaders win their case during the appeals process.

Referring to the upcoming meeting as the one to be held the day after tomorrow, he said the work would last several hours and take up the entire day. Participants will focus on synthesizing documents received from various institutions and bodies to establish a common foundation for drafting the strategy.

After this phase, the working group established for this purpose will continue processing the materials so that they can form the basis of a comprehensive strategy for all Kosovo institutions. According to Konjufca, those institutions will then be obliged to implement it.

Regarding the work carried out so far, Konjufca said the strategic group was constituted at its previous meeting, where the rules guiding its work were also established. The working group was formed at the same meeting, with the task of bringing together in one document the ideas and proposals put forward during the process.

He described the composition of the strategic group by the categories it represents. The government is represented by him, while Minister Hoti is also part of the group. It also includes the president’s representative, a representative of the Assembly Presidency, representatives of the Assembly’s four parliamentary groups, and a representative of the non-Serb non-majority communities group.

Regarding the proceedings, Konjufca emphasized that the group would operate with a high degree of confidentiality. Discussions, he said, could not be open to the public because of the sensitivity of the issues being addressed, both domestically and internationally.

He clarified, however, that communication with the media would continue. Information shared about the group’s work and the document it produces would be limited, with the aim of winning the case on appeal.

During the conference, the Swiss foreign minister was also asked about the sentencing of former KLA leaders. Cassis took a reserved position on commenting on the matter and emphasized Switzerland’s support for the Specialist Chambers.

Explaining his country’s position, Cassis said that Switzerland supports international chambers or courts, accepts the decisions of international courts, and does not comment on them.
