Sali: EU enlargement directly linked to security, measurable reforms needed

Enlargement of the European Union, in addition to being a process of economic importance, must also be treated as an issue of security and stability in the new geopolitical circumstances. This was stated by Bekim Sali, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs.

According to him, Macedonia and the other countries seeking EU membership must accelerate the pace of reforms by coordinating efforts among governments, parliaments and political forces.

“At a time when Europe is facing unprecedented geopolitical challenges, uncertainty and harmful external influences, leaving parts of our continent in a grey zone is not an option. Therefore, enlargement must remain a strategic investment in a stronger, safer and more stable Europe, and we must translate this political commitment into concrete results,” said Bekim Sali.

The EU Delegation in Skopje called for the new climate in favor of enlargement to be accompanied by concrete reform steps and credible results. Ben Nupnau, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Skopje, pointed out that gradual integration is also important, as citizens and businesses can benefit from EU opportunities even before the membership process is completed.

“First, the momentum for enlargement must be translated into concrete and credible reforms and results, and vice versa. Second, gradual integration will bring benefits to EU citizens and businesses throughout the process, and third, we must all make use of the existing experience and expertise in the region,” said Ben Nupnau./Telegrafi/
