Vergori is in Pristina, where on Tuesday he was received at KFOR headquarters in “Film City” Camp by the current commander of the North Atlantic Alliance forces, Major General Özkan Ulutaş.
The visit took place as part of the delegation for the upcoming rotation, KFOR XXXI, which will be led by the Italian general. The delegation members are following a training program for senior leaders, also attended by Brigadier General Onur Çakıcı of the Turkish Army, who has been appointed as the future deputy commander, “Film City” announced.
Born in Lecce in 1971, Vergori has held several important positions in the Italian Army. From 2021 to 2023, he commanded the “Folgore” Paratroopers Brigade, members of which have served in Kosovo. Earlier, he headed the Italian assistance and support mission in Libya. During 2023, Vergori also commanded the Joint Task Force Lebanon Sector West as part of UNIFIL.
According to KFOR, the training is intended to enable the new leaders to become familiar with the mission’s staff and operational procedures, maintain its high level of readiness and ensure continuity of leadership.
The program has also officially marked the start of the handover process between the current command and the one that will succeed it. It is expected to conclude this autumn, when Roberto Vergori will take command from Özkan Ulutaş at the ceremony transferring authority.
