Agim Rexhepi, a security expert and former senior Kosovo Police official, has spoken about his experience in the north of the country, saying that the security situation there has changed radically over the years.

He said that in April 2016, he joined the Economic Crimes Unit. According to Rexhepi, it was one of the most sensitive periods for Kosovo’s security, and his career there was marked by numerous challenges.
Comparing today’s reality with the past, Rexhepi described the difference as the transition from a moonless night to a clear spring day. He said that until Albin Kurti came to power, the north resembled Serbia more than Serbian territory itself. Although circumstances are now different, he said Serbs continue to feel intimidated by the structures that once terrorized them.
Rexhepi also spoke about the pressure that, according to him, illegal structures exerted on citizens in northern Kosovo. He said that as soon as the siren sounded, everyone was forced to take to the streets, as otherwise their lives would be at risk.
Asked whether the Kosovo Police could establish full control in the north without compromising with illegal structures, he responded positively. Rexhepi stressed that the police treat all citizens equally and that, although criminals are everywhere, the state must be more powerful than crime, but also more just.
He expressed his readiness to continue contributing to Kosovo’s security, describing it as a duty to the homeland and a pledge to those who fell for this land. Rexhepi said he would do so without any hesitation.
Recalling his work as an instructor at the Police Academy, Rexhepi urged new members of the Kosovo Police to demonstrate professionalism and dedication. According to him, they must respect the law and love Kosovo, remain vigilant and uphold their dignity. He concluded by saying that the north is not a place for cowards, but for people who serve wholeheartedly rather than simply according to a schedule.
