Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

The leaders’ meeting will be held on August 31 and September 1, with the participation of the leaders of China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran and other member states of the organization.
During his two-day stay, Pezeshkian is expected to hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as with Pakistan’s leader. The visit also includes a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with regional developments and relations between the countries expected to be at the center of discussions.
The Iranian president will address participants at the summit at a time when Tehran is facing increased pressure from the United States.
Founded in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently has 10 member states, including China, Russia, India, Pakistan and Iran. Its main areas of activity are political, economic and security cooperation.
