At a roundtable organized to present the Ombudsperson’s ex officio report on the Specialized Chambers and the Office of the Specialist Prosecutor, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) MP Besnik Tahiri and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Blerta Deliu-Kodra discussed the document’s findings and the need for an institutional approach.

According to Tahiri, the report highlights major concerns regarding violations of the rights of four former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who are facing trial in The Hague.
“Today we have before us a report that brings to light fundamental problems involving violations of the human rights of four of our liberation fighters. The time for emotional reactions has passed; now is the moment for Kosovo to present its arguments with concrete facts,” Tahiri said.
He stressed that the institutions must take the report seriously, identifying the Ombudsperson’s document and the Assembly’s decision on the Law on the Specialized Chambers as two key developments.
The AAK MP also addressed the issue of the Law on the Specialized Chambers, stressing that it could be reconsidered after eleven years.
“After 11 years, Kosovo has the right to reassess, in terms of standards, a law that is not immutable, but an act adopted by the Government,” he declared.
Meanwhile, PDK MP Blerta Deliu-Kodra expressed her gratitude to the Ombudsperson at the same roundtable for the report, which she described as extremely necessary.
“I thank the Ombudsperson for a very necessary report. We have a decision that condemns four former KLA members, but what we are seeing and discussing are serious violations, and ultimately this has led to a situation in which the decision was made in the name of the people of Kosovo,” Deliu-Kodra said.
She announced that she would also address the issue during the plenary session of the Assembly of Kosovo.
