Experts from the European Storm Forecast Experiment have activated a level two warning for several regions in Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, and Turkey. In the next 24 hours, these areas will be hit by powerful storms accompanied by large hail, strong winds, and intense rainfall.
Forecasts indicate the highest probability of tornado formation is concentrated in eastern Bulgaria and eastern Romania. Specialists explain that the collision of a cold front with very warm, moisture-laden air masses over the Balkans creates the ideal conditions for supercell development. These structures have the potential to produce large hail, destructive winds, and tornadoes.
The risk area also extends to northern Greece and northwestern Turkey, where meteorologists expect well-structured storms that will bring hail, powerful winds, and heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a level 1 alert has been issued for parts of southern Italy and eastern Spain, where isolated storms with hail and heavy downpours are forecast.
According to meteorologists, this unstable situation is linked to a cold front moving towards Southeast Europe, while hot subtropical air masses continue to dominate the region, favoring the occurrence of dangerous atmospheric phenomena.
