The newly appointed United States ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, has arrived in Tirana. His first official meeting will take place tomorrow with President Bajram Begaj, to whom he will present his credentials.

The one-on-one meeting between Ambassador Wendt and Head of State Bajram Begaj is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
Wendt is a retired U.S. lieutenant general with more than 34 years of experience in the United States military. His background is particularly connected to special operations and security issues.
During his military service, he led NATO’s special operations forces, where he also worked with Albanian troops.
His cooperation with Albanian military personnel continued during missions in Afghanistan.
After retiring from the military, the new U.S. ambassador continued his work in the fields of security and leadership. He taught command and leadership at the Naval Postgraduate School.
During his confirmation hearing before the U.S. Senate in May, Wendt also outlined the objectives he intends to pursue during his diplomatic mandate in Albania.
His priorities include combating corruption, organized crime and drug trafficking, as well as expanding cooperation in defense and cybersecurity.
He also stressed the importance of fair and transparent treatment for American investors.
Wendt mentioned energy, infrastructure, the mining industry and artificial intelligence as areas of interest.
With his arrival in the capital, Eric Wendt officially begins his tenure leading the U.S. diplomatic mission in Albania.
