One of Morocco’s most important roads will be named after US President Donald Trump, a decision officially approved by King Mohammed VI.

Trump was informed of the news through a letter sent by the Moroccan monarch. It announced that the 1,055-kilometer Tiznit–Dakhla highway would be named after the US president.
Mohammed VI described the decision as “a personal expression of high appreciation” for Donald Trump.
The road also passes through Western Sahara, a disputed area controlled mainly by Morocco but also claimed by the Polisario Front, which seeks independence for the Sahrawi people.
In his message, the Moroccan king expressed gratitude for the decision taken by the Trump administration in 2020 to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. The step was taken as part of an agreement to normalize diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel.
According to Mohammed VI, the US support “will remain forever in the memory of Moroccans, from generation to generation.” He also stressed that relations between Morocco and the United States have never been stronger than during Trump’s presidential terms.
Donald Trump had commented on the honor several days earlier on his social media platform Truth Social, where he thanked King Mohammed VI. The US president also posted a video of the highway, whose construction cost around $1 billion.
“I hope to travel along this entire magnificent highway one day, preferably very soon,” Trump wrote.
Western Sahara is considered one of Africa’s longest-running territorial conflicts. The United Nations classifies it as a non-self-governing territory and has for decades called for a political solution, while its final status remains the subject of international disputes.
