The Pediatrics Department at Kumanovo General Hospital treated six children for poisoning during August. With these cases, the number of recorded poisonings among children since January has risen to 16.

Children under the age of four account for the majority of cases, as their curiosity may lead them to touch or consume medicines, detergents, pesticides and other toxic substances. The most recent case involved a child who was poisoned by Domestos.
Dr. Margica Arsovska explains that medicines are the most common cause of poisoning, followed by cleaning products, pesticides and plants.
Parents are advised to take their child for an immediate medical examination as soon as they suspect poisoning. They should also bring the product or packaging of the substance with which the child came into contact.
Medical staff stress that vomiting should not be induced, especially in cases involving the consumption of chemicals or detergents. Some of these substances can seriously damage the digestive tract as they come back up.
Immediate assistance is crucial in such situations, while patients in more serious condition may require treatment at specialized centers.
