The discovery of several more shell casings 500–600 metres from Urim Fiku’s home in the village of Godvi, Bulqizë, has taken the investigation into the 62-year-old’s death on November 3 in a new direction. The circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
His wife and son appeared before the Dibër court a day earlier and denied responsibility for the killing. They said Urim had been attacked by a wild animal and, in a state of severe shock, had shot himself with a pistol in the yard of his home.

But the court was not convinced by their account and ordered Sadete and Gazmir Fiku to remain in custody. They are the only suspects so far in the killing.
Investigators are reported to have returned to the scene and searched the area.
Several more shell casings were found 500–600 metres from the home. Investigators suspect they came from the same firearm found in the yard on the day of the incident.
This has led investigators to consider whether the 62-year-old was pursued and shot at several times from a distance before being struck by the fatal bullet in the yard of his home.
The newly discovered casings have been sent to the forensic police in Tirana, who will determine whether they came from the same TT-type pistol.
The accounts given by the mother and son have differed. They initially said Urim had fought with a wild animal, a bear, and died as a result. They later said he had reached the home injured by the animal and, in a state of shock, had taken a pistol and shot himself.
Urim’s son, Gazmir Fiku, is also reported to have said that he was in Bulqizë at the time of the incident, in his office, where he works as the head of a sector at OSHEE.
