The impact of the war in Iran on oil and gas markets has increased pressure on energy prices in the European Union. In a letter addressed to member states, the European Commissioner for Energy urged governments to consider measures to reduce demand.

“We are facing a price crisis linked to a supply crisis,” EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen wrote in his address to the energy ministers of the member states.
According to him, although the European Union is better prepared today than it was in the winter of 2021, when Russia sharply cut gas supplies to Europe, governments should accelerate their planning for next winter.
Dan Jorgensen called on member states to consider implementing or continuing measures that guarantee sufficient reserves and, if necessary, reduce gas and electricity consumption.
