Bajram Bajam, a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, has been released by the Croatian authorities, the Ministry of Justice announced.
According to the ministry, his release was made possible following the intervention of Kosovo’s institutions and cooperation with the relevant Croatian authorities.

Bajram Bajrami was detained in Croatia pursuant to an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia over allegations related to the commission of war crimes, in his capacity as a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
The ministry said that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla became engaged from the first moments of his detention in order to undertake the necessary institutional steps.
On 14 August 2026, in an official letter addressed to Croatia’s Minister of Justice, Damir Habijan, and the competent authorities, Gërvalla requested the immediate release of the Kosovo citizen. In the same letter, she expressed concern over Serbia’s use of arrest warrants against citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
The case was also discussed during a telephone conversation between Minister Gërvalla and her Croatian counterpart. During the conversation, it was emphasized that the citizens of Kosovo must not be held hostage to such claims by Serbia.
According to the position conveyed by the ministry, Kosovo’s justice institutions have jurisdiction over the alleged offenses committed in the territory of Kosovo.
The Ministry of Justice described Bajrami’s release as evidence that Kosovo’s institutions will stand by their citizens in the face of Serbia’s efforts to prosecute or detain them through international mechanisms.
The institution reiterated that the Republic of Kosovo will continue to protect its citizens, their rights and dignity, as well as the truth about the just liberation war.
The ministry also stressed that justice cannot be used as a political instrument against citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
