Hykmete Bajrami, an elected MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has called on the Government to respond urgently following the damage caused by hail in Istog and other parts of the country, urging compensation for the affected farmers.

Bajrami said the hailstorms flattened hundreds of hectares planted with agricultural crops and, in just a few minutes, destroyed months of farmers’ hard work.
In a Facebook post, she called on the executive to convene an emergency meeting and allocate funds to fully cover the damage. According to her, such action is the responsibility of the state, particularly since the Government had distributed hundreds of millions of euros for electoral purposes during the final week of the election campaign alone.
The elected MP also reiterated the LDK’s proposal to establish an agricultural insurance scheme so that farmers are not left unprotected and at the mercy of fate in the face of natural disasters every year. Bajrami stressed that concrete measures, rather than excuses, are now needed, adding that farmers must not be left on their own, as without them there can be neither agriculture nor food security.
