New developments have emerged in the killing of 43-year-old American woman Jamie Carney, who was found dead in her home in Killarney, Ireland.
The results of the autopsy, carried out by the state forensic pathologist, determined that the cause of her death was asphyxiation, overturning initial suspicions that she had died as a result of severe head injuries. According to the forensic examination, the woman was suffocated or subjected to another form of blocked breathing.

Jamie Carney’s body was found on Tuesday morning by her 13-year-old daughter, who discovered her under a duvet in the bedroom of the family home. Although several injuries were found on the victim’s body, authorities clarified that they were not the main cause of death.
Investigators have focused their attention on her 28-year-old partner, Ahmad Alsaker, who is considered a person of special interest in the case. According to authorities, he arrived in Ireland in 2024 from the Middle East and had applied for asylum.
Information gathered so far shows that the 28-year-old boarded a flight from Dublin to Istanbul just hours before the victim’s daughter found her mother’s lifeless body.
Irish authorities suspect that he may try to continue traveling to Jordan through countries in the Middle East. According to media reports, he has connections in Turkey, Syria and Jordan and communicates in Arabic, English and French.
Police had issued alerts at the country’s ports and airports, believing that the 28-year-old might try to flee, but it was later confirmed that he had already left Ireland.
The investigation has found that Alsaker was among the last people to have contact with Jamie Carney. He is suspected of having spent Sunday and Monday with the 43-year-old, shortly before she died.
According to reports, their relationship had begun only a few months earlier, after they met at a local pro-Palestinian protest. Because the 28-year-old frequently visited the victim’s home, investigators acknowledge that finding his DNA at the scene will not be enough to prove involvement in the crime, something that is expected to make the investigation even more complicated.
Meanwhile, Irish authorities are continuing their work to fully clarify the incident, while efforts to locate the 28-year-old are ongoing.
