Araghchi: US attacks on Iranian energy are war crimes and violations of international law

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that the United States has committed war crimes through attacks on Iran’s vital energy infrastructure, which he described as serious violations of international law.

In a message shared on Telegram, Araghchi said that US threats and military operations demonstrate, in his view, “the criminal intent of the American government apparatus to commit horrific crimes.”

He said that US actions constitute “a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law.”

According to the Iranian minister, strikes against civilian infrastructure facilities are classified as “serious international crimes” and run counter to the foundations of international criminal law, including the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.

Araghchi stressed that every state has a responsibility to conduct investigations, initiate criminal proceedings and punish those who commit such crimes.

He also accused US officials of using “irrational rhetoric and diabolical threats.” He claimed that Washington’s hostile stance toward Tehran is linked to Iranians’ determination to preserve their independence, legitimate rights and dignity.

At the end of his statement, the Iranian foreign minister warned that those responsible for the attacks “cannot evade legal responsibility by claiming that they acted on the orders of their superiors.”
