According to the agency’s official statement, investigators suspect that the officers demanded and received 20,000 lek from the citizen in exchange for not penalizing him for a traffic violation.

The arrested officers are A. S., 20, and Xh. F., 23. Both hold the rank of inspector and were serving in the General Patrol unit at Police Station No. 4 in the capital.

The investigative steps that led to their arrest were carried out under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction.

The two officers are suspected of jointly committing the criminal offenses of “Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions” and “Abuse of office,” as provided for under Articles 259, 248 and 25 of the Criminal Code.

AMP says the investigation is continuing to fully document the case and determine whether anyone else was involved.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption and violations of the law by police personnel, emphasizing that it will intervene in every case that undermines the integrity of the uniform and citizens’ trust in the State Police.
