African heat returns, here’s how high the thermometer will climb this weekend

After several days of temperatures at normal July levels, African heat will return to the country starting on Thursday. According to forecaster Lajda Porja, temperatures will reach up to 40 degrees.

“They will rise day by day, starting from Thursday at 35 degrees, then 37, 38 and by Sunday reaching 39 and 40 degrees. There will be a break from the middle of next week, a brief cooling, and then hot African air masses again,” said forecaster Lajda Porja.

The heat will affect several counties, where temperatures will be higher.

“Shkodra, Elbasani, Berati, Gjirokastra, then Fier and Tirana,” Porja said.

Because of the presence of wind, the risk of fires, especially in some areas, is expected to be high.

“The high temperatures will contribute to it, especially the wind factor in Lezhë and Vlorë, and the wind will be present and will be a problem for fires,” Porja said.

According to forecasters, the month of July is expected to be extremely hot, above its normal values, also influenced by the El Niño effect, which is now active.
