Activist Opposes New Territorial Reform: It Harms Citizens’ Lives and Strikes at History; Do Not Touch Konispol and Delvinë

Speaking from the podium set up outside the Prime Minister’s Office, activist Etleva Merko opposed the new territorial reform, declaring that it undermines the country’s history and further burdens the lives of Albanians. Referring to the possibility of merging the municipalities of Konispol and Delvinë, she urged politicians not to interfere with these territories.

Merko said citizens are protesting over the taxes they pay without receiving the corresponding services. According to her, the new territorial division will worsen conditions further and amounts to an attack on the country’s history.

The activist questioned how Konispol—and with it, the history of Chameria—could be erased, while expressing the same concern about Delvinë. She accused the government of failing to protect the people’s interests, saying it has become arrogant and does not listen.

“Hands off Konispol, Delvinë and Albania,” Merko declared. She stressed that Delvinë’s historic contribution to state-building cannot be diminished and that the people have the right to defend Albanian interests through democratic means.
