As tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated in recent weeks, Pakistan appears to have undertaken a new initiative to bring both countries to the negotiating table.

Since the clashes began, Islamabad has played a mediating role between Washington and Tehran, an effort that has also received public support from China.
An official source in Islamabad told Radio Free Europe that even during periods of open hostility, efforts have not ceased. He added that the countries most alarmed about further escalation are those in the Persian Gulf region, which are bearing the brunt of Iranian strikes, even more than Israel, now that the latter is not directly involved in the conflict.
On July 24, international media reported that Pakistan was working to open a communication channel that would enable the resumption of suspended negotiations between the two countries. It was also revealed that Beijing, as a strategic ally of Pakistan, is encouraging and supporting this process.
On the other hand, Iran has signaled that it is open to a ceasefire and a return to dialogue. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that Tehran has no interest in prolonging the conflict and is willing to sit down for talks with the US to find a way out.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington and Tehran are continuing diplomatic efforts to end the escalation, even though attacks continue in some parts of the region. He warned, however, that there is no guarantee that these talks will produce a concrete agreement.
