This is not the first time the two leaders have met recently; they have had previous meetings both in France and in Turkey. Interestingly, on the same day, Zelensky is also invited to the memorial service of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
The Trump administration, whose attention has been largely focused on the Middle East crisis, is expected to face a direct request from the Ukrainian leader to once again put the situation in Ukraine at the center of its agenda. On a parallel front, developments in the U.S. legislature indicate ongoing engagement, as the Senate may consider a new set of bipartisan sanctions targeting Moscow as early as next week.
Meanwhile, on the ground in the conflict, Ukrainian forces have continued their offensive activity. Russian media have reported that two warehouses of the large online retail company Wildberries, located near St. Petersburg and in the Leningrad region, were engulfed in flames after being struck by Ukrainian drones. Authorities in Moscow confirmed that air defense systems managed to neutralize several of the unmanned aerial vehicles, adding that there were no casualties from these attacks.
