Harsh statements about the internal life of the Democratic Party and the role of historical leader Sali Berisha were made by former MP Ervin Salianji, who appeared in the Prime News24 studio. During the interview, he spoke about the challenges facing the opposition and emphasized that his political legitimacy stems from the support of voters.

“Where I am today, I arrived through a voting process. You speak about MPs – let us remember that in the time of Basha, 98 percent of the parliamentary group stood with him,” Salianji declared, illustrating the frequent shifts in positions within the faction depending on who leads the party.
His attack was openly directed at Berisha, whom he accused of blocking the democratic opening of the party while failing to deliver results at the ballot boxes: “Berisha claims he does not accept voting within the party. The answer must be demanded from the one who holds responsibility. Did he deliver the MPs as promised? Did he achieve success in the local and general elections? Meanwhile, as activists took to the streets, the two co-chairs of the reform committee were touring around Albania.”
Concluding his stance, Salianji sounded the alarm about new political developments if the situation in the opposition does not transform after the next electoral cycle: “If the DP cannot go to victory in the local elections, I will act again to remove Sali Berisha from the leadership. For now, it is better to stop the internal quarrels and work to include other party forces as well.”
