Historian and researcher Auron Tare has shared photographs of the ruins of the home of renowned Albanian writer Mitrush Kuteli, raising concerns about the site’s deplorable condition. According to Tare, the place where the home of one of Albanian literature’s important figures once stood has become a rubbish dump.

The ruins are about 20 metres from Lasgush Poradeci’s garden. Tare also notes that the alley that once connected the homes of the two Albanian literary figures has been blocked off with walls and stones.
“Albanians are throwing rubbish onto the foundations of his house. Just 20 metres from Lasgush’s garden, the house has been demolished and the site has been left as a dumping ground,” he writes, expressing outrage at the neglect of the writer’s heritage.
Mitrush Kuteli, whose real name was Dhimitër Pasko, was a prose writer, poet, translator, publicist, folklorist and literary critic. His work played an important role in the development of modern Albanian prose and the enrichment of national culture.
In his post, Auron Tare also shared an excerpt from Kuteli’s farewell letter to his wife. In it, the writer urged his children to love their country and the Albanian language, even when life confronted them with unjust suffering.
“I urge the children to love our country and language, even through suffering. May their hearts not turn against Albania, even when they suffer through no fault of their own. The homeland is the homeland, even when it wounds you. They were born here; may they live here with all their heart and soul, even in pain,” reads the excerpt from the letter shared by Tare.
In his post, the researcher describes Kuteli as a prose writer, poet, folklorist, publicist, storyteller and literary critic, noting that he left Albanian culture and thought more than 10 literary works.
