The announcement came after several hours of alarm within the country’s institutions, which had been informed of a possible plot targeting Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

“Police have detained the person who threatened and planned an attack against Prime Minister Donald Tusk,” Kierwiński said. He provided no further details about the identity of the arrested person or the attack that was allegedly being organized.

Following the development, Prime Minister Tusk wrote on the social media platform X, expressing his gratitude for the police’s swift and decisive response.

The authorities’ intervention took place several hours after an emergency meeting held by Poland’s security institutions. Representatives of the police, the State Protection Service and domestic security institutions attended the meeting.

According to the authorities, the first warning about the threat was sent to police by the State Protection Service, which is responsible for protecting senior officials.

Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesman for the special services, said the case was being handled with the highest level of seriousness. He added that the possibility of the threat being carried out was high.

Government spokesman Adam Szłapka described the situation as extremely concerning.

So far, the authorities have disclosed neither the suspect’s motives nor the specific method through which the attack was believed to have been carried out.

The case has emerged at a time when Poland is facing growing security concerns following several violent incidents in schools and warnings about hybrid threats.

Poland’s strategic role as one of Ukraine’s main supporters and as a NATO member on the alliance’s eastern flank has placed its security under the scrutiny of European institutions.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tusk had warned that hybrid actions against countries helping Kyiv could increase. Moscow has denied accusations of plans of this kind.

The investigation is continuing, while Polish institutions have yet to provide further details about the suspect or the evidence that led to his detention.
