US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had reached an agreement on an energy ceasefire aimed at suspending attacks on energy facilities in both countries.

He published the news on the social network Truth Social, saying the agreement would take effect immediately. Trump provided no details about its contents, duration or how its implementation would be monitored.
“Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it!” the president of the United States wrote.
At the time of the announcement, neither Russia nor Ukraine had officially confirmed that the agreement had been reached.
Trump’s statement came several hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv was ready to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries, provided that Moscow suspended strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Zelensky stressed that any measure to reduce tensions must be reciprocal and supported by clear guarantees that it would be respected.
During an interview with the US television network ABC, the Ukrainian president called on Trump to put pressure on Moscow to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.
It remains unclear whether the US president’s announcement is based on an agreement negotiated directly with both sides or on a commitment that still requires official confirmation from Moscow and Kyiv.
Attacks on energy infrastructure are among the main factors in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Russia has continued to strike Ukrainian energy facilities, damaging the electricity supply, while Ukraine has increased its use of drones against refineries and oil installations on Russian territory.
