A gas cylinder was found on Monday morning beneath the statue of David at Piazzale Michelangelo, one of Florence’s most visited panoramic viewpoints.

According to Italian media, the cylinder was spotted at around 7:30 a.m. by an employee of Alia Servizi Ambientali, which is responsible for waste management services. She immediately called the single emergency number, 112.
Following the report, Carabinieri officers and specialists from the explosives expert unit arrived at the scene and began the necessary checks.
Authorities cordoned off and secured the area, while investigators are examining security camera footage to identify the person who left the cylinder and clarify the circumstances of the incident.
It has not yet been determined whether the cylinder was full or empty. On-site checks and the investigation are ongoing.
