Joan Laporta has revealed new behind-the-scenes details about Barcelona’s unsuccessful attempt to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. According to reports, the Catalan club submitted a €100 million offer for the Argentine forward.
Atletico Madrid rejected the proposal, making it clear that they had no intention of letting the player go.

Speaking at Barcelona’s Members’ Assembly, Laporta said Atletico officials had felt “offended” by the way the Catalan club had acted. The Barcelona president added that, in his view, the Madrid club’s reaction was unjustified.
Laporta also revealed that Miguel Angel Gil had informed him that Atletico would not sell Alvarez because they had no replacement for him.
The Madrid club subsequently filed a complaint over Barcelona’s contact with the player, claiming it had taken place before the transfer window opened.
“All of this is now in the past,” Laporta said. He praised the work of sporting director Deco and stressed that he is satisfied with Barcelona’s current squad.
