The building of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo was lit tonight in the colors of the flag of the United States of America, in remembrance of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The inscription “We Will Never Forget 9/11” was also displayed on the building’s facade as a message of tribute to the people who lost their lives in that tragedy.
Through this gesture, Kosovo’s institutions expressed their solidarity with and respect for the victims of the attacks, who are commemorated every year in the United States and around the world.
On September 11, 2001, the United States faced a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that permanently changed modern history. Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger planes; two of them crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, while another struck the Pentagon.
The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers and crew members attempted to regain control of it. The attacks caused the deaths of around 3,000 people and injured thousands of others. September 11 became a turning point for international security and American foreign policy, followed by the war in Afghanistan and a global campaign against terrorism.
