Veliaj’s letter on handing over city hall or facing 100 years in prison: PD calls for urgent investigation into Rama, Gogu and Hajdari

The Democratic Party (PD) has called for an immediate investigation involving Edi Rama, Toni Gogu and Arbër Hajdari following the publication of Erion Veliaj’s letter from Fier prison. In a statement to the media, PD described what the mayor claims was conveyed to him in his cell as “mafia-style blackmail.”

In his letter, Veliaj claims that Prime Minister Edi Rama presented him with three demands through Justice Minister Toni Gogu. One of them, according to the mayor, was to hand over Tirana City Hall to Arbër Hajdari or face 100 years in prison.

The opposition considers the alleged threats an extremely serious incident that also raises questions about Veliaj’s safety while held in Fier prison. The Democrats also claim that SPAK is being used to exert pressure in disputes within the ruling majority.

Condemning what it describes as a threat against Veliaj in his cell, the Democratic Party calls on the justice institutions to investigate the case without delay.

In its statement, PD refers to the letter published by the media today, in which Veliaj writes that, after he was transferred to Fier prison, Rama sent Justice Minister Toni Gogu to his cell. According to the allegation in the letter, he was told to hand over city hall to Arbër Hajdari or face 100 years in prison for undermining the constitutional order and financing the “Flamingos.”

The Democratic Party of Albania says these alleged threats against prisoner Erion Veliaj expose what it describes as Edi Rama’s true face.

In PD’s view, the act is scandalous and shows that Veliaj’s life in Fier prison is in serious danger. The party also says SPAK has become a tool of blackmail in the clash within the ranks of the ruling majority.

At the end of their statement, the Democrats condemn the alleged threat against Veliaj in his cell in the strongest possible terms and call for an urgent investigation into the act, involving Edi Rama, Toni Gogu and Arbër Hajdari.
