The U.S. president made the comments to Fox News during a visit to California, saying that negotiations with Tehran were moving in the right direction and that there was a possibility of ending the months-long conflict.

“We are having very good discussions,” Trump said, insisting that Iran was ready to reach an agreement.

“I think we could have a deal today or tomorrow. I don’t know exactly, but the chances are that by Thursday we will have achieved a lasting agreement. They say they don’t want to talk, but then they call and say, ‘Let’s talk…’ Hormuz will be 100% open very soon, or Iran will be hit hard,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have said that the negotiations have advanced sufficiently to make it possible for maritime traffic to resume.

News of progress in the talks has also affected energy markets, where oil prices have fallen to their lowest level in the past three weeks. However, senior U.S. officials have not publicly provided details about what form the potential agreement might take.
