Ireland has been shaken by a serious incident in the city of Killarney, where a 43-year-old American woman was found dead in her home.
The victim, Jamey Carney, was discovered in the bedroom by her 13-year-old daughter on Tuesday morning, covered with a blanket. Irish media reported that multiple head injuries were also observed on her body, but the forensic examination determined that the cause of death was suffocation by asphyxiation.

It had initially been reported that she died as a result of blows to the head, but the autopsy changed that version, revealing that the death had been caused by asphyxiation.
Irish police have opened a murder investigation and are searching for her partner, Ahmad Alsaqer, 28, an asylum seeker originally from the Middle East. He is suspected of having left Ireland just hours before the crime was discovered.
According to the investigation, Alsaqer is believed to have first traveled by bus from Killarney to Dublin at around 03:00 in the morning, and may then have boarded a flight to Istanbul. Irish authorities have issued alerts at airports and ports and are working with international partners to locate him. Investigators suspect he may have received help from contacts in Turkey, Syria and Jordan.
Jamey Carney moved from New York state to Ireland in 2021 together with her daughter. She worked for a consulting company in the healthcare sector. According to media reports, she met Alsaqer about a year and a half ago during a pro-Palestine protest.
On social media, especially Facebook, Carney often posted photos and messages with the slogan “Free Palestine,” and in some of the posts she also appeared with her partner.
Relatives of the 43-year-old described her as a woman with a big heart and committed to humanitarian causes. Meanwhile, neighbors said that on the night before the body was found, they had heard a loud argument coming from her home.
